Do not reduce the age rule to βall vehicles six yearsβ. The Trade Board table uses different limits for motorcycles, ordinary cars, light commercial vehicles, larger buses and trucks, heavy equipment, returning residents and special-purpose vehicles. Confirm the exact category and current model-year treatment before paying.
Do not ship with only a seller inspection. The current official process connects a valid pre-shipment inspection certificate to the import-permit and customs-document journey. The Trade Board's 1 June 2026 notice lists the current PSI fee as USD 187 and sanitization as USD 75; verify the live fee and Japan appointment before payment.
Do not use one fixed duty percentage. Jamaica Customs says vehicle duties and taxes are complex. Obtain the current vehicle-specific assessment through the licensed customs broker and include port, storage, fitness, registration and delivery costs.
Verify the seller and written contract before payment. The Embassy of Japan in Jamaica says buyers should check the seller or agent's credibility and operating status, review warranty, repair-responsibility and after-sales terms, and document the vehicle condition before concluding the transaction. The embassy cannot intervene in private commercial disputes.
